Located at a distance of 18 km from Ongole, Tangutur is an important
religious place for Hindus. Tangutur, also known as Tanguturu is a
village in the Prakasam District. The popular temple of Valluru,
dedicated to Goddess Valluramma, is situated in the region, at a
distance of about 8km from Tanguturu. The village is bounded by the
Paleru and Moosi rivers.
Jammulapalem Village, located 3 km from Tangutur, is a significant tourist place near Tangutur. The place houses a church established in 1979, by Brother Jogi Moses. Every Sunday, devotees gather in the Assembly hall of the church, called Beher-Lahi-Roi Christian assembly.
The prominent temples located in this region are Shivalayam, Vishnalayam (Chennakesavalayam), Poleramma Talli, Ramalayam - 1, Ramalayam - 2 and Ayyappa Temple. The temples of Shivalayam and Vishnalayam are ancient temples, with sculptures and chariots. The Shivalayam temple, situated in Tangutur near NH 5, contains 1116 Shiva Lingas arranged on the floor.
