Renigunta in the Chittoor District
of the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh
, is a suburban area of Tirupati
and a major pilgrimage centre for Hindus
. Renigunta was initially a railway junction to offload traffic from Tirupati East railway station. Later in the 1970s, Tirupati Airport
was set up. This Tirupati suburb is popularly known as the 'Dwaar' (Entrance) to the temple city. It was once primarily a British economic centre, mainly because of its Railway line, which was the first Railway line between Renigunta and Pudi in Andhra Pradesh.
